Well Services, Testing & Monitoring

Supporting Wells Throughout Their Entire Lifecycle

Drilling a well is only the beginning.

Over time, wells require testing, monitoring, maintenance, rehabilitation, and in some cases decommissioning. Owen’s Drilling provides a range of well support services throughout British Columbia and Alberta, helping residential, agricultural, municipal, industrial, and commercial clients understand the condition of their wells and address issues before they become larger problems.

Pump Testing

Pump testing provides valuable information about well performance, production capacity, and long-term reliability. We perform pump testing services that help property owners, consultants, engineers, and project teams better understand groundwater availability and well performance.

Whether you need a pre-purchase assessment, a regulatory compliance test, or a performance evaluation for an existing system, our team provides pump testing services designed around your specific requirements.

Water Sampling & Groundwater Monitoring

Water quality is an important consideration for residential, agricultural, commercial, municipal, and industrial users. Our team provides water sampling services to support testing programs, regulatory requirements, and ongoing monitoring initiatives.

Groundwater monitoring programs require dependable infrastructure and accurate data collection. We support monitoring programs for environmental, industrial, municipal, and resource-sector projects throughout Western Canada. See also our environmental drilling services.

Well Rehabilitation & Maintenance

Over time, wells can experience reduced production, sediment issues, mineral buildup, and other performance concerns. Well rehabilitation services can often restore performance and extend the useful life of an existing well — frequently at significantly lower cost than drilling a replacement.

Routine maintenance helps identify potential issues early and keeps well systems operating efficiently. We assist clients with inspections, evaluations, and maintenance-related services designed to support long-term performance across residential, agricultural, and commercial properties.

Well Decommissioning

When a well is no longer required, proper decommissioning is essential to protect groundwater resources and meet regulatory requirements. We provide professional well decommissioning services in accordance with applicable regulations and industry standards.

Proper decommissioning protects groundwater from contamination, satisfies regulatory obligations, and removes liability associated with unused well infrastructure. Our team handles the complete decommissioning process from planning to completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should a water well be tested?

We recommend annual water quality testing for residential wells. Additional testing is advisable after flooding, nearby construction, changes in water appearance, taste or odour, or any work to the well or pump system. Regulatory requirements vary by province and well type — contact us to discuss your specific situation.

What is pump testing and what does it tell me?

A pump test measures how much water a well can reliably produce over a given period. It tells you the well’s yield rate, recovery time, and whether the well can meet your current and future water demand. Pump tests are commonly required for real estate transactions, development permits, and regulatory compliance.

What are signs that a well may need rehabilitation?

Common signs include reduced water flow or pressure, sand or sediment in the water, changes in water colour or taste, more frequent pump cycling, and increased pump runtime. If you notice any of these, it is worth having the well assessed before problems worsen. Early intervention is typically less costly than waiting.

Is it required to decommission an old well?

Yes — in British Columbia and Alberta, unused or abandoned water wells must be properly decommissioned (abandoned) in accordance with provincial regulations. An improperly sealed well can allow surface water and contaminants to enter the groundwater. Contact us to discuss the decommissioning requirements for your well.

Do you provide well services across all of BC and Alberta?

Yes. Owen’s Drilling serves clients throughout British Columbia and Alberta, including rural properties, remote locations, municipalities, and industrial sites. Contact us to discuss your project location and we will confirm service availability and scheduling.
