Water Well Drilling in Golden, BC

New wells, screens, pump testing and well service for Golden, Nicholson, Parson, the Blaeberry and the northern Columbia Valley

Drilling a well around Golden means working with the Rocky Mountain Trench: river gravels on the valley floor, glacial deposits on the benches, and fractured bedrock as you climb toward the Rockies and the Purcells. Two properties a kilometre apart can need very different wells.

Owen’s Drilling has drilled water wells across southeastern British Columbia since 1979. Our crews and rigs work out of our Cranbrook yard and serve the Golden area regularly, from new builds on the benches above town to acreages along Highway 95 and cabins up the side valleys. Our drillers are licensed in BC and Alberta, and we are members of the BC Ground Water Association.

What to Expect When Drilling a Well in Golden

Many residential wells in the Golden area are drilled between 100 and 300+ feet, and some go deeper. Where your property sits in the valley makes the biggest difference.

  • Valley floor near the Columbia and Kicking Horse rivers: sand and gravel aquifers that can produce well at moderate depths. Fine sediment often means a properly sized well screen is needed to keep sand out of your pump, and low ground near the Columbia Wetlands sees spring high water, so the wellhead and surface seal must sit above flood level.
  • Benches and terraces above town: thicker glacial silt, sand and gravel, usually with deeper water and more variation from lot to lot.
  • Side valleys and hillsides such as the Blaeberry, Moberly and the upper slopes: wells often reach bedrock, where yield depends on the fractures the bit intersects.

Because of this, we don’t quote a one-size depth. We look at records of wells already drilled near your property, your site access and how much water you need before recommending an approach.

See What Nearby Wells Look Like Before You Call

Our free Well Depth Lookup Tool shows average depths of existing wells near your property from BC’s provincial well records. It can’t predict your exact depth, but it’s the best starting point for budgeting a new well or understanding a property you’re thinking of buying.

Cabins & Recreational Properties

Commercial, Tourism & Farm Wells

Pump, Flow & Water Testing

Buying a property with an existing well? Flow testing and water sampling show you what you are getting. We also service and rehabilitate older wells.

Well Rules and Paperwork Around Golden

Golden sits in Electoral Area A of the Columbia Shuswap Regional District, and most rural properties outside town limits rely on private wells. Under BC’s Water Sustainability Act and Groundwater Protection Regulation:

  • Household (domestic) groundwater use does not need a water licence. Commercial, tourism, irrigation and other non-domestic use does.
  • New wells must be built by a registered well driller, with a proper surface seal and a well identification plate.
  • The driller files a well construction report with the province, and it is added to BC’s public GWELLS database.

We file the construction report and attach the well plate for every well we drill, and we can point you in the right direction if your project needs a licence.

Golden Water Well FAQs

How deep will my well be?

Do you work in Golden regularly?

Yes. Golden and the north Columbia Valley are a regular part of our service area. Our yard is in Cranbrook, so send us your location and project details and we will give you a realistic scheduling window for Golden.

I’m buying a property with a well. What should I check?

Ask for the well’s construction report (most are searchable in GWELLS), then have the well flow-tested and the water sampled before you close. Our quote form has a spot to tell us you are purchasing.
